日本大学芸術学部演劇学科卒業後ダンスのトレーニングをはじめる
2000年に西アフリカのセネガルを訪れた際、熱狂と優雅さが混在する彼ら独自のリズム＆グルーブに魅了される。
2002年アフリカの動きとコンテンポラリースタイルの融合、インスタレーションアートの可能性求めてニューヨークに渡る。
アルビンエイリースクール2年間の留学生プログラムを終了。
クリスタルブラウン インスピリッツダンス、マイムナケイタ アフリカンダンス、アーバンブッシュウーメン、ロナルド・ケイ・ブラウン エビデンス、カミール・エイ・ブラウン、ノラチパウミレをはじめとするアーティストとのプロジェクトに参加する一方、ソロ作品の創作、発表を続ける。
2007年セネガルで行われたカンパニー ジャント・ビ主催の40日に渡るプロフェッショナルダンサーズトレーニングに参加、30か国にも及ぶ国からの参加アーティスト達と生活、創作を共にする。
アメリカに帰国後、本格的に独自のスタイルを追求しはじめる。
日本の前衛のルーツである舞踏の稽古を再開すると同時に、禅哲学、野口体操の研究をスタート、
フランス人ディレクターによる舞踏カンパニーバンジェリンシアターに加わる。
2016年に日本に帰国、こころとからだのつながりに注目し「たった今ここにあるからだ」を探求、創作、発表を続け
近年は 在る空間 HOME というテーマで美術家としての発表も始めている。
juri nishio is a performance artist.
She was born and raised up in Tokyo, Japan
and graduated from Nihon University of Art with a degree in drama.
Her dance journey began in 2000
when juri visited Senegal to participate in workshop
with the family of the renown drummer Doudou N'Diaye Rose.
She moved to New York 2003
to investigate contemporary and African forms
and in 2006 completed the International Student Independent Study program
at The Ailey School.
She worked with numerous choreographers
and also presented her solo works to expand her voice.
2009, again she visited Senegal to participate in professional dancers training
which was organized by Ecole des Sables.
For 50 days, she lived and danced with
dancers and musicians from all around the world,
could not help thinking of her identity.
She resumed to learn origin of Japanese contemporary dance
"Butoh" to dig into her mission,
and started to create her own style.
Japanese sensitivity is flowing deeply under her expression
but also has plenty of afro spice,
using this unique her own body language
She convey the voice from the spirits.
